About
Angela Avila & Roy Montejano

FOUNDERS, ORGANIZERS & TANGO TEACHERS

Ángela Ávila—born in Puerto Rico and a San Antonio resident since 1979—has been a leading force in the local tango community since 1999. That year, she founded Tango in San Antonio (TISA), creating a hub for dancers of all ages and backgrounds. In 2022, she co-founded the San Antonio Tango Festival (SATF), which continues to energize the city’s dance scene and draw top-tier talent from around the world.

Since 2007, Ángela has partnered with Roy Montejano, a San Antonio first responder, to teach Argentine Tango. Together, they offer group classes, private lessons, and multi-day workshops—all focused on strong foundations, elegant form, and musical connection.

Certified by the Artango School of Boston, Ángela and Roy are committed to continual growth. They regularly travel to Argentina, the Dominican Republic, and Canada to study with world-renowned tango masters, ensuring their teaching remains fresh, authentic, and inspired.

At the heart of TISA is a clear philosophy: emphasize connection, refine technique, and share the joy of tango. Ángela and Roy’s passion for the dance creates a welcoming environment where students thrive—regardless of age or experience.
