Angela Avila
Angela Avila has well over 13 years of Tango experience, and she happens to be a founding member of the SA TANGUERO GROUP that began in 1999! Angela met Frank Huddleston, with whom she shared the dream of bringing Tango to San Antonio, Texas. Terry Bauch, Frank Huddleston, Kathy Robertson, and Angela started a group to practice among themselves and to offer a medium in which Tango could grow and become a passion for others because they believe that passion cannot grow without the opportunity to share it with others. Today, Angela teaches groups and private classes where she shares her knowledge of Tango by teaching good technique, fundamentals and form. Angela’s philosophy is “work on the foundation, make it strong, and everything else will fall into place.”
Angela Avila believes that each of us is called to express our creativity in our own way; for her it is through dance. She has become proficient in several forms of dance including Tango, Merengue, Salsa, Swing and Modern Dance. Of these, Tango became her passion. Angela’s devotion to this art form has given her the opportunity to study Tango under various teachers, among them Daniela Arcuri, Fernada Ghi and Guillermo Melo, Nito and Elba, Marcus Questas, Daniel Trenner, Brooke Burdett and Florencia Tacetti. It has also given her the opportunity to perform in numerous local Tango exhibitions such as those at the Pearl (Brewery), St. Mary’s University, the King William Fair, La Posada, Our Lady of the Lake University with Janis De Lara and the Viva Tango Orchestra, the Three Tenor Tango show, the Jump Start Theater and various private events. Angela has also performed at the Punta Cana Tango Festival in the Dominican Republic. Tango led her to Austin, California, Argentina, Canada, Holland and Paris in order to learn more about the art of this dance. She has also been a guest instructor and dancer at workshops throughout Texas and as far as the Dominican Republic. Angela’s passion and dedication are apparent in her teaching and in her unique, but elegant dance style which never fails to captivate audiences.
